Four days after their long unbeaten league run was finally ended at Anfield, Forest immediately returned to winning ways by beating Second Division promotion hopefuls, Brighton & Hove Albion. 40 years ago, I was there, at the City Ground, among over 30,000 others, to watch the tricky trees storm through this League Cup quarter final to their second successive semi-final appearance in the competition. As this was the first time I'd ever seen Brighton, home or away, I'll do a bit a review of their 78 year history most notable for its almost complete lack of success before this match, as well as the 22 years or so years after it, until the end of the millennium. Brighton stayed in Division Three South for over 30 years - I'll look at that in context of other stability runs.
